How to Manage Eczema Flare-Ups Effectively

April 27, 2019 by Maya

Eczema is a fairly common skin condition that is characterised by itchy and red patches on the skin. This skin condition is also known as atopic dermatitis which means that it is triggered by specific allergens that cause skin inflammation. A significant number of patients diagnosed with eczema are kids, but it is also a common condition that teens and adults experience at least once in their lifetime. If you happen to go through this type of skin condition here are some tips on how to manage atopic dermatitis effectively.

What are the symptoms of eczema?

The common signs of atopic dermatitis include dry, itchy and inflamed skin. For severe cases, eczema can be quite watery which is quite challenging to treat as compared to dry eczema. Having this type of skin condition can cause discomfort, anxiety and a great deal of embarrassment. Triggers of this skin condition are caused by either food or environmental factors, which is why people with eczema should be more careful with things.

Other eczema triggers include:

  • Strong scented bath soaps and detergents
  • Excessive dry and scaly skin
  • A sudden change of temperature
  • Stressful situations
  • Pet fur (dogs and cats)

What are the available treatment options for this condition?

CBD

Cannabinoids are known to be very effective in treating eczema and other skin conditions due to their potent anti-inflammatory properties. You may create your own CBD creams and other skin products by buying its raw material known as CBD isolate.

Unscented moisturiser

If you have eczema, it is essential to keep your skin nourished and hydrated as often as possible. Most doctors recommend moisturising at least twice a day to create a barrier in the outermost layer of your skin, preventing it from itching.

Topical ointments

Treating early signs of eczema flare-ups can prevent the condition from getting worse. Talk to your doctor or dermatologist and ask for an effective cream that can help provide relief right away. In some cases when ointments are no longer effective your doctor can try a different approach to treat the condition.

Yoghurt

You can apply the product directly to the affected area and leave it exposed for at least an hour. The yoghurt is known for its cooling effects on the skin which helps lessen the inflammation. Do this at least once a day every morning if you want to see significant improvements in just a few days.

Virgin coconut oil

VCO is pretty famous for its ability to treat eczema and many other skin conditions. The antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of the VCO work together to help improve the appearance of dermatitis and make your skin smooth and healthy.

Oatmeal

For years this all-time high fibre snack has established a reputation for relieving common symptoms of eczema. Mix at least two cups of ground oats into a tub of lukewarm water and enjoy your bath and pat dry after 30 to 45 minutes.

If you have eczema or atopic dermatitis, do not lose hope because many treatments are available to make your life healthy once again
