Ziko is a young HeroRAT in the middle of his training
Birthdate: March 30, 2008
Length: 16 cm (body) 17 cm (tail)
Trainer: Shaibu Hamisi Dutilo
Personality: Calm, focused, dedicated, and eager to do his job well
Current training: 3 meter- Ziko is now working with finding real landmines in the training field. He is now learning all the smells associated with a landmine and all the other smells surrounding a minefield so he is prepared when he is fully trained to be a focused mine detection rat! He is learning the stick method: 1 trainer and 1 rat, which is a bit of a specialty. He has passed each of his tests thus far with flying colors and is excelling as a HeroRAT in training.
Notable accomplishments:
Ziko comes from a very large family. A normal litter of rats is 2-3, however there are 5 in Ziko's family, all are male: Manji, Mengi, Zumo, Stan and Ziko. His father Thomas is a demining rat and his mother is from the wild.

Hello Shaibu!
Please give Ziko an extra treat today and tell him that we adopted him as a Christmas present for our dad and husband, Jim. We saw a program on PBS a little while ago about what great work you do and Jim will be so happy that such a small Ziko is making such a big difference in people's lives!
With warm regards,
Hanna & Lise
